ATAYAL, Inc. has involved a hand-picked group of people whose expertise and guidance will keep us true to our mission.
Mr. Po-Wen Chen was a champion of the democratic movement in Taiwan. He is now retired and living in Florida. The ATAYAL organization was blessed to have crossed paths with Mr. Chen. He has now volunteered his free time to support the organization's efforts as an advisor. Mr. Chen provides access to personnel and resources in Taiwan who can make a substantial difference for the program.
Professor Chin-an Li (or Li KhinhoaN, his Taiwanese name) is an expert in Taiwanese linguistics. He studied Taiwanese phonetics, syntax and sociolinguistics under the international well-known Taiwanese linguist, Professor Robert Cheng, and received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Hawaii. Dr. Li's doctoral dissertation, which studies Taiwanese lexical change, won the scholarship award 2000, National Science Council, Taiwan. Dr. Li has been involved in the Taiwanese language Revitalization Movement since 1991. He is also a famous Taiwanese poet. He has published 6 poem collections and won the Eighth Taiwanese Poet Award.
Dr. Li was born in Tainan, Taiwan, in a Silaiya (siraya) aboriginal tribal family. He received his B.A. degree in English Language & Literature from Tunghai University (1979), when he was 28. He started to pursue his PhD degree in linguistics when he was 40. He was active in teacher's movement and was the initiator of the Taiwan's first teacher's union, Teacher's Human Rights Association. He was also active in the movement of the purification of elections as well as human rights. Now he is teaching Taiwanese at Harvard University.
Mrs. Stephens is a real estate professional with experience in non-profit work in Orlando, Florida. She is a devoted Christian and generous leader in the community. She was raised in Taiwan in Hualien County as part of the Amis tribe. Mrs. Stephens provides the company with valuable experience and a direct connection to the indigenous tribes of Taiwan. She is dedicated to ensuring the organization stays focused on its mission of helping the indigenous people of Taiwan.
Leticia Rieman brings to the ATAYAL organization over seventeen years of experience in the areas of strategic planning, marketing and promotion. She holds credits as a TV producer and special events producer on international projects, including work with the United Nations. She was elected to the "Who's Who of American Women" in 1991-92.
