![]() Dr. Yang Zhong addressing the audience on the PRC foreign policy perspective. China/Taiwan/USA Symposium
Tony Coolidge of ATAYAL organization was invited by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Miami to attend a symposium hosted by Florida Atlantic University. The symposium was titled, "China, Taiwan, and the United States: Prospects for Peace and Confrontation." Tony brought with him ATAYAL board member Marvin Couch, as well as Aaron Hose', film/video producer. We saw this as an opportunity to educate ourselves on the important political issues China and Taiwan face. These issues affect the lives of Taiwan's indigenous people. We also took this opportunity to meet others in the international community and share the ATAYAL mission. The symposium was moderated by Dr. Edward W. Schwerin, Director of the Center for Policy Studies at FAU. Dr. June Teufel Dryer of the University of Miami did a wonderful job framing the events and issues at the beginning of the presentation. Dr. Yang Zhong from the University of Tennessee did a great job sharing his opinion on the PRC Chinese perspective on Foreign Policy. Representative Chien-Jen Chen of the TECO office and Dr. Alexander Tan presented the Taiwanese perspective. Dr. Dennis Hickey of Southwest Missouri State presented the U.S. perspective. There were question and answer sessions, giving the audience a chance to interact. It was a wonderful opportunity for all to have contructive discussion on such an important world issue.
