37th year of the Wanli reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Japanese Shogun Tokugawa orders Arima to attack "Gaoshaguo," but the attempt fails. The Dutch occupy Penghu.

43rd year of the Wanli reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Japanese Murayama lands in Taiwan with 3,000-4,000 troops, but is forced to abandon the island due to lack of relief.

2nd year of the Tianchi reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Dutch build a stronghold on the Penghu islands with the intention of capturing the town of Hu. The local garrison razes the fortress and flees in fear, leaving Hu to the Dutch. The Dutch commander Lerrson takes two boats and explores the coast of Taiwan.

4th year of the Tianchi reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Chinese allow the Dutch to settle in Taiwan, and permit them to maintain a trading relationship. The Dutch build Fort Orange at Yikunshen.
The Spanish arrive in Taiwan for the first time.
The aborigines of Mujialiuwan village resist the Dutch.

5th year of the Tianchi reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Dutch begin building Fort Provincia at Chikan near Shingang village.
Incited by the Chinese, the aborigines (Pingpu tribes) rise up against the Dutch on April 9th, but the rebellion fails.

6th year of the Tianchi reign period (Ming dynasty)
More than ten crewmen of a Spanish vessel anchored in the vicinity of Beinan are murdered.

7th year of the Tianchi reign period (Ming dynasty)
Rev. Candidius arrives in Taiwan and sees that the Pingpu aborigines still do not use oxen, horses, and the plow.
1629
2nd year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
Nuitzen defeats the Shingang tribe.
1631
4th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Dutch subdue the Shingang tribe.

5th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
A Spanish vessel is shipwrecked at Komalan in a typhoon. All 50 crewmen perish. 3,000 soldiers are dispatched, but are unable to land.

6th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
Aborigines at Komalan (Pingpu tribes) kill the Spanish missionary Fr. Fatez.
1634
7th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Spanish launch another attack on Komalan and rout all the local tribes.
Fr. Jerose performs missionary work at Shenao.
1635
8th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Dutch attack the aborigines of Madou and Xiaoxiao villages.
The Madou aborigines kill 66 Dutchmen, but are subdued.
1636
9th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Dutch force the surrender of four tribes, including the southern Danshui and the Mumulian (living near Pingtung). The Dutch have now pacified 57 tribes.
After the Spanish withdraw their forces from Tamsui, local aborigines destroy the Spanish fortress and four churches.

9th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Pila tribe ambushes and kills the Spanish missionary Luis Muro between Peitou and Tamsui.

9th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Dutch defeat the Xiaolong tribe on January 8.
1637
10th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Dutch send Lieutenant Jan Jurianson to Beinan to look for gold.
The Rev. G. Candidius writes "A Short Account of the Island of Formosa."
1638
11th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Dutch attack the Huawulong tribe.
On January 20th Johan van Linga sets out for Beinan via Langqiao to search for gold.
1639
12th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
A census is taken of the number of people, schoolchildren, and baptized Christians in the area of southern Taiwan controlled by the Dutch.

14th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Pingpu regional assembly (Landdag) is established on April 1st. Han Chinese living in Pingpu villages oppress the Pingpu in the name of the Dutch.
December 31st, The Dutchman Wesselingh is murdered by local tribesmen while searching for gold in Beinan.
1642
15th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
November 20th, The Dutch commander Duladi Niusidai [?] attacks the Dabolo and Huawulong tribes with 300 Chinese sampans and 1,800 aboriginal warriors (Pingpu tribesmen).
1644
17th year of the Chongzhen reign period (Ming dynasty)
April 20th, The pirate Kung Wangh is killed in a fight at Langqiao.
June 1st, The pirate Kung Wangh's subordinate Twakan takes control of the pirate forces.
1645
First year of the Hongguang and Longwu reign periods (Ming dynasty)
The Dutch convene the elders of friendly tribes and hold a council meeting at Tainan.
The Dutch missionary Robert Ronough writes "A Religious Primer in the Aboriginal Language."
The pirate Twakan seeks to occupy Tamsui and Keelung in conjunction with local tribes, but is defeated.
1646
2nd year of the Hongguang and Longwu reign periods (Ming dynasty)
A Dutch party visits Duoluoman (Hualien) in search of gold.
1647
First year of the Yongli reign period (Ming dynasty)
Christianity is widely accepted by the Xialong and Shingang tribes.
1648
2nd year of the Yongli reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Dutch establish schools at Madou and Tainan to teach the aborigines.

The Dutch establish schools at Madou and Chikan. The number of Han Chinese in Taiwan increases to 20,000.
1650
4th year of the Yongli reign period (Ming dynasty)
The Rev. G. Hoppart's dictionary of the Wabulan language ("Woord-boek der Favorlangsche Taaj") is completed. The book "The Conversion of 5,900 Taiwanese Natives" is published in London.
