Kristine Chung Hua Lundgren Ortega grew up in California's Bay Area with an indigenous mother (Atayal tribe) and Scandinavian father. The realization of her unique heritage as an adult has led her to dedicate time and energy to making a difference for and increasing worldwide recognition of the Taiwanese indigenous peoples. She is fortunate to still have family members within the Atayal community, and brings these connections to her work for ATAYAL.
A talented musician herself, Kristine is Owner and Director of Music for Families and has taught Music Together classes for the past seven years. Her comprehensive work in early childhood music education combines with her own life-long involvement with music, most recently expressed throuh her involvement in the Santa Cruz Chorale, to provide a firm foundation for her efforts to bring music to the community. She previously played for several local musicals, and competed in Austria's world-famous Vienna Music Festival as a cellist with the California Youth Symphony. She enjoys singing and dancing with her daughter, and enjoys helping develop girls' talents as a Girl Scout Leader. Community service is very important to Kristine, and she prioritizes Music for Families' involvement in community events, the annual Fall Family Festival, and programs to make music more accessible to lower-income children.
