THE PROJECTS
Taiwanese Indigenous Culture Celebration - (February 2004) - ATAYAL will feature the world premiere of its "Voices In The Clouds" film and will also screen the Atayal Trail documentary to the Central Florida community to begin its promotional campaign. This festival will correspond with the Chinese New Year celebration and will include an indigenous art and photo exhibition. There will also be Taiwanese tribal dance performances to entertain the crowd. Traditional Taiwanese food will also be served. Orlando will be the first stop for an International Taiwanese Indigenous Culture Celebration Tour. ATAYAL plans to bring this celebration event to Orlando, Miami and Tampa, Florida in February 2004. If this event is successful, ATAYAL will plan to host the event in cities throughout the United States and Canada. Taiwanese Educational Exchange - (Future Project) - ATAYAL will host a project to bring opportunity to the tribal communities of Taiwan. Many indigenous families cannot afford the private tutoring and cram schools that most Taiwanese families can. We want to give the indigenous children the same opportunities to learn English that the more wealthy Taiwanese have. ATAYAL will work with American colleges and universities to send students to teach English in the tribal villages of Taiwan. It will be an attractive offer and enriching experience for any student. Taiwanese Radio and Television Station - (Future Project) - ATAYAL's long-range goals are to give the indigenous tribes of Taiwan a voice that can carry strength and influence across their nation. We also want to give them a common goal and tools to work cooperatively. The ATAYAL foundation will partner with the government and other organizations finance the initiative to build a radio and television station that will be owned and operated by the ten tribes of Taiwan. Increased media exposure can only improve the public perception of this minority group. It will also offer commercial and employment opportunities. This media will disseminate indigenous news and issues as well as highlight the talents and spirit of these people. Media exposure, that show the people, not as only costumed singers and dancers, but as intelligent, passionate, hard-working successful human beings can make a positive impact in the eradication of negative stereotypes in a society. Look at what Black Entertainment Television (BET) Network has done to pioneer entertainment and the image of African-Americans in American society. These media stations may be self-supporting or be supported by an outside agency and will be constructed with the help of revenues generated from ATAYAL projects. A benefactor has even discussed donating the land for the construction sites of these facilities in Taiwan.
