Atayal sculpture in Taroko
An Atayal sculpture in Taroko National Park.

The Taroko National Park is one of the most beautiful scenic areas in the wold, and our tour did not disappoint our American guests. Miss Sandra Yu and Miss Tso were pleasant tour guides and showed us the highlights of the park. We hiked on cliffside paths, waded in the river and a hot spring, and hiked through tunnels of marble.

The photo is of an Atayal sculpture that was the centerpiece at a museum and visitor center within the park. The sculpture shows a mother and daughter using a mortar and pestle to grind millet grain. The museum featured many photos and handicrafts. They even have an Atayal woman displaying her talents and traditional weaving skills, which is a disappearing art.
