 The indigenous village of Wulai.
Part of my mission during the trip was to get more in touch with my indigenous heritage and meet the indigenous people. I also shot film and interviewed people for preliminary research for the upcoming ATAYAL documentary projects.
The best place for me to start was in the village of my heritage, Wulai. This was were my mother was born and my family were from. This is where I was raised until I was 4 years old. I would be able to find my relatives here and find the cultural heritage I have been out of touch with.
When we arrived by city bus, we were very surprised at the growth we saw. We always knew Wulai became a popular tourist destination. But in the two years since I was last here, there were several new hotels and a 7-11. The 7-11 was a sure sign that the village had matured into a full-fledged town, and a prosperous one at that.
